What’s In Your Water?

According to a report from the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, increased cancer risks were linked to 22 carcinogens found in the drinking water, below are just a few. Contaminants included arsenic; radioactive materials, such as uranium and radium; and disinfectant byproducts, which are substances produced when chlorine and other additives are used in the treatment process.

CHLORINE

PROBLEM

CHLORINE is used to keep our water supply clean by disinfecting it and killing bacteria. It does a marvelous job at eliminating most pathogens from the water we drink. However, it seems these advancements have come at a price to our health. While we recognize and applaud the benefits CHLORINE has brought to us, it’s time we also protect ourselves from the harms of drinking chlorinated water.  CHLORINE is considered a pesticide, and in theory is designed to attack and kill living organisms. This is why it is so effective at eliminating bacteria from the water supply.

SOLUTION

Removal of CHLORINE can be easily obtained with our Pure Water North 9-stage filtration system. Our Reverse Osmosis purification uses a state-of-the-art 0.0001 micron membrane to reduce metals, arsenic, pharmaceuticals, lead, mercury, viruses, bacteria and other solids.

HEAVY METALS

PROBLEM

Heavy metals pose a serious threat to our health. Among the World Health Organizations (WHO) Top 10 chemicals of major health concerns, four of them are metal or metalloid: arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury, and many more. Because of their toxicity, they are also listed in the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.  Long-term exposure to inorganic arsenic causes skin pigmentation change and lesions and eventually can lead to cancer. Cadmium targets mainly the kidneys to cause renal diseases and stays in our body from 10 to 35 years.  Lead has multiple targets in our body and is deposited mainly in bones and teeth. Children absorb four to five times as much lead as adults; children who ingest lead may suffer from neural diseases and anemia. Both elemental mercury and methyl mercury are toxic. Mercury stays in the air for one year but can be stable in water sediments for millions of years.

SOLUTION

Our Reverse Osmosis is used to eliminate up to 99.9% of HEAVY METALS from drinking water. The water molecules are able to pass through our reverse osmosis 0.0001 micron membrane while the HEAVY METALS and other contaminants are rejected to waste. Leaving you with clean Pure Water.

PHARMACEUTICALS

PROBLEM

If we are taking it, we are also drinking it: birth control, tranquilizers, painkillers, blood thinners, hormones, chemotherapy, antibiotics, veterinary drugs, cocaine, amphetamines etc. Whatever goes into us, also comes out of us, through our own biological voiding. Every time we flush the toilet the drugs we ingest are making their way back to our water taps. The excreted drugs pass right through most sewage treatment processes and end up in rivers and lakes, and into our drinking water. “There is a growing concern about the occurrence of pharmaceuticals in water bodies and in drinking water. Pharmaceuticals get into the water supply via human excretion and by drugs being flushed down the toilet. You might think wastewater treatment plants would take care of the situation, but pharmaceuticals pass through water treatment”. – Source https://www.usgs.gov/

SOLUTION

Reverse Osmosis is the best solution available as noted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration for reducing and removing pharmaceuticals from our drinking water. Several studies have shown that Reverse Osmosis is capable of removing more than 99% of the commonly encountered pharmaceuticals in our drinking water.

TRIHALOMETHANES (THMS)

PROBLEM

TRIHALOMETHANES (THMs) are the result of a reaction between the chlorine used for disinfecting tap water and natural organic matter present in the water. At elevated levels, THMs have been associated with negative health effects such as cancer and adverse reproductive outcomes. Now a study by academic researchers adds to previous evidence that skin absorption and inhalation of THMs associated with everyday tap water use can result in significantly higher blood THM concentrations.

SOLUTION

Removal of THM’s can easily be obtained using our Pure Water North 9-stage filtration system. Which includes an industry leading 5 total filters.

Some additional contaminants that can be removed and or have reduced levels with Pure Water North 9-stage filtration system.

Arsenic | Bromate | Chromium (hexavalent) | Dichloroacetic acid | Haloacetic acids (HAA5) | Total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) | Bromide | Chloroform | Chromium (total) | Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate | Fluoride | Molybdenum | Monochloroacetic acid | Nitrate | Strontium | Trichloroacetic acid

REPORT:

Cumulative risk analysis of carcinogenic contaminants in United States drinking water

“It is important that such reports be appropriately communicated to the public and not spread fear,” says Maurie Markman, MD, President of Medicine & Science at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). “There is no question that this report is concerning, and further quality investigation is mandated to both understand the magnitude of the issue and appropriate action steps to mitigate the potential risks.”

Skip the Bottles!

If you are concerned about the quality of your water and think bottled water may offer a better option, EWG says think again. Bottled water is not always better quality, it costs more, wastes energy and puts millions of empty bottles into the garbage. The watchdog group recommends filtering your tap water as the better option for getting clean water. EWG also offers a “Tap Water Database” tool that allows water utilities customers to search by ZIP code to see how their water system ranks.
